About the Studio

My name is Isaac Arterburn and I am a baritone singer with a passion for working with students to become well rounded and confident individuals, whether they pursue careers focused in music or not.

My primary instrument is voice, however I spent my childhood learning the wonders of violin and cello, gained solid experience with piano in college and while teaching choir, and now spend my spare time enjoying the pleasures of folk instruments such as the ocarina, jaw-harp, and tinwhistle.

I strive to work on vocal foundational support, accuracy of diction, character, genre, and culture, as well as confidence in oneself and performing.

To build such a foundation I start with a 4-Step Plan:

  1. Stance - relaxed and able to move
  2. Tension - released from abdomen, torso, and neck
  3. Breath - free and supported
  4. Face - alive and pleasant

Materials

  • For Lessons taking place with Mr. Arterburn travelling to you:
    • A keyboard
    • A music stand (or stand of some sort to read music from) on the keyboard or apart
    • A space that can be free of distractions, noise, and other people if requested, and that can fit two people and a keyboard (and a power outlet if needed)
  • A binder for holding music with a pencil.
    • Mr. Arterburn sometimes has pencil pouches if requested.
    • You may use the same binder as choir, as long as you may take it home to practice.
    • Mr. Arterburn will have a hole puncher and stapler
  • Performance Attire
    • Usually very flexible, but preferably not loose fitting and could be acceptable at places like churches or fancy restaurants.
    • Dresses, Collard Shirts, Ties, closed toe shoes or nice sandals
  • For recordings if necessary:
    • A device for recording with good audio capabilities
    • A device for playing a recording of an accompaniment
  • Sheet Music
    • Mr. Arterburn emphasizes working on music that students are passionate about. He seeks out repertoire books that will cover a variety of interests and genres. Please do your best not to lose copies of music given, especially if lent a repertoire book.
    • Occasionally students request to sing a particular song from a movie or their favorite band, and we need to find sheet music online to purchase. Mr. Arterburn will first check with parents/adult students and then is happy to purchase the music, print a copy for the student, and provide the PDF in exchange for a fee of $5-10 invoiced to their account.
    • Mr. Arterburn has memberships to sheet music websites and stores. He often finds a desired song in a location that offers multiple keys or song bundles, so the $5-10 charge is usually less than the full price as Mr. Arterburn gets the music with additional materials that he will be able to use with more students in the future.

Payment Methods

  • PayPal: Mr. Arterburn has both a business and personal account.
    • Business PayPal:
      • In each invoice it will have a “Pay Here” or “Pay Now” button that takes you to a payment portal through this account
      • Mr. Arterburn plans to set up an auto-pay feature through this account soon
      • Has an automatic fee of $2.22 which for small payments (such as weekly) is a large percentage of the cost, but for payments above $60 is a small er percentage. PayPal Business accounts take fees away from businesses, so the $2.22 is to offset that but to encourage monthly rather than weekly payments.
      • Payments done through the invoices will automatically log in Mr. Arterburn’s website
    • Personal PayPal: paypal.me/izalion99
      • The plus of this account it does not require any fee. It may ask if you’d like the protection fee or if it a “good or service” but that takes a fee from Mr. Arterburn’s earnings that he does not need the protection from. It is preferred that you do not tag the fee option.
      • Payments here are logged manually on the MyMusicStaff website by Mr. Arterburn
  • Venmo: @Isaac_Arterburn
    • This has the same benefit as the personal PayPal account: if you do not add on the “goods or service” fee then it has no fee for you and is quick and easy.
    • Payments here are logged manually on the MyMusicStaff website by Mr. Arterburn
